Happy New Year!

August 2nd, 2010

It’s unbelievable that a new school year is about to start. And while most of us are too old to step back into the classroom when the first bell rings this fall (you can try, but you’re likely to get some odd looks and be escorted from the building), we’re all affected – even those of us who don’t have kids. Don’t believe me? Just think about how nice it’s been not getting stuck behind the school bus these last couple of months!

We’ve also got some changes and happenings within the life of the church that are taking place around the same time. Here’s the run-down:

1. In case you didn’t already know, the Sunday service times, they are a-changin’. There will no longer be the 8:30 service, the 9:50 service or the 11:10 service. Instead, we’re moving to two Sunday morning services at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Of course, the big part of this is that we’re opening up the new building so we’ll technically have four services now!

2. Worship: In the Worship Center, Jerry Coursey will be leading worship to blended music (similar to what we currently do). In the Expanded Worship Center [some people call it "the new building", "the youth building" (really Wayne Naugle calls it that in an attempt to overtake it), "Worship Center v2.0", "Worship Center, The Sequel", "The Worship Center Strikes Back", or "The Purple People Seater"], Justin Melton will be leading worship. Maybe you prefer worshiping God to one style of music over the other and you’ll choose to attend one of those services regularly. Or perhaps you like both and will flip-flop between services. Or maybe you love both styles so much that you’ll sprint from one building to the other and back again in a total panic, just trying to soak it all in. Whatever you decide, we’re excited to have this new space and more opportunities for true worship to take place.

3. Wednesday Nights: Wednesday nights are going to offer those who can’t be there on Sundays the chance to essentially experience the same service that just happened the Sunday before. Ronnie will deliver the same sermon from the previous Sunday and Justin will lead worship in a more laid-back, acoustic style (think of it as Justin Unplugged. Or not.).

Let’s review:

VBS Music

June 10th, 2010

Lots of people have been asking about where to purchase the music that the kids learned during VBS:

Go to: amberskyrecords.com

Register a user name and purchase credits (10 credits for $12.50). Then you can search for songs in the song section and download them all (each song is 1 credit). Be sure to download the “Full Mix” version…the others are with background vocals and without background vocals…they are performance tracks! (Which I guess you can do if you want a little family karaoke time! :) )

If you do this option, you will be able to choose other songs that you like as well!
On the cd “Live It Out” we also use the songs “Happy Day”, “Lean On me”, “Live It Out”, and “We Shine” in worship already! Also, you can look up “Everything Fades”…it is a really cool version of the books of the Bible.

Other songs we suggest: “We Won’t Be Quiet”, “You Are God”, and “My Rock”.

Easter

March 30th, 2010

Communion – This Sunday

March 23rd, 2010

The Lord’s Supper is worship through remembrance. It is specifically for those who have placed their faith in Jesus and asked Him to lead their lives, and is a response to one of Jesus’ last instructions to His disciples. By eating and drinking a small portion of bread and juice, we remember Christ’s death that paid for our sins, His constant presence and love in our lives, and His promise to return.

We hope you will join us this Sunday as we take an entire morning to focus on what He has done . . . for us . . . through His death.

Sunday morning | 8:30, 9:50 & 11:10 am

Do You See What God Sees?

March 9th, 2010

Came across this blog entry today from Jess Barnett, a member of FBCL, and thought it was very insightful and timely after Ronnie’s sermon on Sunday. Enjoy!

Do You See What God Sees?

From Words For the Kingdom

Are you living up to your potential? I would venture a guess that the large majority of us would have to say that we are not. Potential is defined as “qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.” Another definition is “having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.” Very few of us set out to be unsuccessful or unable to attain that which God has for us. Yet somehow we have an incorrect view of ourselves. We have allowed others to paint a picture of ourselves that taints our potential.

We have allowed ourselves to settle for good enough, when God wants to give us the extraordinary. He has promised us that He has plans for each of us. (Jeremiah 29:11) The last part of this verse states that these plans are for a “hope and a future.”

This must mean that God sees us as worthwhile. By that I mean that He sees something in us worth planning and preparing for. If something has no future, it is discarded and cast aside. We are far from cast aside by God; in fact quite the opposite is true. God sees value and worth in us. He sees us as capable and important. He has chosen us for a purpose. Most importantly, He sees us as unique individuals perfectly created and cast for our role in His drama.

So the question becomes, do you see yourself as God sees you?

If not, you are going to continue to live below your potential. Good enough will continue to be good enough. It will be sufficient to just get by with our minimum duty as Christians, because when we don’t see ourselves the way God sees us, just getting by is all right. Furthermore, the world only expects us to be successful in worldly ways; it knows nothing of obedience to God and success as a Christian.

I have it written in my Bible, “Success in God’s eyes is obedience.”

When we see ourselves as God sees us, we strongly desire to obey Him. We want to follow Him down the adventure He leads us on. Following Him, we know we are capable and filled with His power and Spirit. Going where He sends us, although sometimes fraught with spiritual danger, is always worth it in the long run. And when we take the path that He puts us on, there is no doubt that He will place us exactly where we ought to be.

Father, create in me a clear vision of myself. Help me to strip off the lenses that hinder my vision of myself. Help me to realize that in You, I am a new creation. In you, I have power and strength. I have been created for a purpose. I am made for a reason. Help me see the talents and abilities that I have been given as the gift from you that they are. Help me use them for your glory and your honor so that I reach my full potential in this world as I prepare for the next.

Wild Game Dinner

February 9th, 2010

Just try to name any other social event where:
1. You do not have to shower before going
2. Burping and other male noises are not only acceptable but actually encouraged and
3. You can walk away with door prizes like a big jar of deer urine?

Hopefully, there is no other.

(Could the world even handle that much testosterone in more than one place at a time??)

Where is this outdoorsmen’s paradise? This mecca for manly men?
