Happy New Year!

August 2nd, 2010

It’s unbelievable that a new school year is about to start. And while most of us are too old to step back into the classroom when the first bell rings this fall (you can try, but you’re likely to get some odd looks and be escorted from the building), we’re all affected – even those of us who don’t have kids. Don’t believe me? Just think about how nice it’s been not getting stuck behind the school bus these last couple of months!

We’ve also got some changes and happenings within the life of the church that are taking place around the same time. Here’s the run-down:

1. In case you didn’t already know, the Sunday service times, they are a-changin’. There will no longer be the 8:30 service, the 9:50 service or the 11:10 service. Instead, we’re moving to two Sunday morning services at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Of course, the big part of this is that we’re opening up the new building so we’ll technically have four services now!

2. Worship: In the Worship Center, Jerry Coursey will be leading worship to blended music (similar to what we currently do). In the Expanded Worship Center [some people call it "the new building", "the youth building" (really Wayne Naugle calls it that in an attempt to overtake it), "Worship Center v2.0", "Worship Center, The Sequel", "The Worship Center Strikes Back", or "The Purple People Seater"], Justin Melton will be leading worship. Maybe you prefer worshiping God to one style of music over the other and you’ll choose to attend one of those services regularly. Or perhaps you like both and will flip-flop between services. Or maybe you love both styles so much that you’ll sprint from one building to the other and back again in a total panic, just trying to soak it all in. Whatever you decide, we’re excited to have this new space and more opportunities for true worship to take place.

3. Wednesday Nights: Wednesday nights are going to offer those who can’t be there on Sundays the chance to essentially experience the same service that just happened the Sunday before. Ronnie will deliver the same sermon from the previous Sunday and Justin will lead worship in a more laid-back, acoustic style (think of it as Justin Unplugged. Or not.).

Let’s review:

What’s Happening in August?

May 4th, 2010

It all comes down to one thing:
Our desire as a church to make room for others to connect with God. And this August we are providing more opportunities to make that possible:

On Sunday August 15th, our new times will begin at 9:30 & 11:00 am. Then. . .

Beginning Sunday August 22nd, we will offer 4 worship services at those new times. There will be simultaneous services at 9:30 & 11:00 am. The Worship Center will still host the same style service that we currently provide, while the new expanded worship facility (located on the back of the Education Building) will provide members and guests with a more casual worship environment.

August 25th will kick-off a 5th weekly worship environment on Wednesday nights at 7 pm. This sermon, taught by Pastor Ronnie, will be a duplicate to the previous Sunday morning. This is a great venue to invite people to who are not able to attend on Sundays.

New Building Progress

November 9th, 2009

I stepped into the new building this morning and was surprised to see the progress that has been made since the last time I checked it out a few weeks ago. And the space is BIG!

But, there is one negative to this whole situation, and to some it’s a pretty substantial con.

No skateboaring on the inside. As an avid skateboarder, Tony Hewatt was excited about the expansive new concrete slab indoors. Needless to say, he IS NOT happy about this.

Praise for what God is doing:

October 20th, 2009

In each staff meeting, we share praises about what God has been doing in the last few weeks. Here are just a few of the many praises that were mentioned in this morning’s staff meeting:

***

Incredible things are going on in Student Ministry. On Saturday evening at the Student Baptism Service, it was incredible to hear from students’ mouths the life-changing experiences that God has done in their lives. One-by-one students rose to the stage and poured out their hearts about how God has changed them and has been so faithful in their lives. About 200 students this past weekend gathered together to seek Him and His plan for their lives. And we are still hearing stories about how He used this past weekend to shape them into His image.

As many of you know, Ronnie felt led to take up a special offering this past Sunday. This is something that he very rarely does and it is only when he truly feels God leading him to do so. He asked that people give whatever they could. A staff member’s middle-school-aged son saw a lady next to him open her purse and literally POUR the contents into the offering plate. His son was completely humbled by her generosity and how much she trusted God. As church members and even as staff we will never know who this generous woman was, but her testimony made a powerful impression and I am sure that this boy will never erase that image from his mind.

There are so many things we could mention that He is doing here. (I wish I could type as fast as the Micro-Machine man could talk, so that I would be able to share each story as people rattle them off!)

The Nehemiah Project Update

March 12th, 2009

Where are we with The Nehemiah Project?

Here is the long and short of it: Phase 1 is going to cost us about $105,000 (which covers the cost of puchasing the building, laying the foundation, erecting the building and having it completely dried in). As we mentioned during the worship services, all of the tithes given on the last Sunday of March will go directly towards the project. Once all of the needed funds are in, we will order the metal and begin the construction. It will take 2 1/2 -3 months to complete Phase 1. We are excited about how things are going and we appreciate your involvement in this important project.
